01 May Week Long Work Experience With FEL

From 27th April – 1st May Esther joined Fashion-Enter Ltd across all 3 campuses for a week-long work experience placement.Here’s what she said at the end of the week:

I would like to sincerely thank everyone at Fashion-Enter for such a valuable and welcoming work experience across the different campuses. I have genuinely enjoyed my time with the team and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

Throughout the week, I gained hands-on experience across different areas of garment production, studio processes, teaching support, quality control and client interaction. One of the things I enjoyed most was seeing how the different departments work together from development to finished garment stage.

My first days at the Leicester campus were a really positive experience. Jo Bean and Divya Kamath were both very welcoming, supportive and kind throughout my time there. I had the opportunity to assist with pattern classes, paperwork and observe how training sessions are delivered to students. It gave me a deeper understanding of the teaching and operational side of the academy, which I found very inspiring.

I also spent time at the Finsbury Park/Islington campus supporting within the stitching classes and assisting teachers during student training sessions. I really enjoyed interacting with the students and supporting within the classroom environment. It strengthened my interest in teaching support and training within the fashion industry, as I enjoy sharing practical knowledge and helping others develop their skills.

During my time at the Haringey unit, I observed and participated in production studio control processes and quality checking procedures. I also spent time within the repair centre, where I learned how garment repairs, amendments and finishing are carefully handled before pieces are approved and completed. It was very interesting seeing how garments are cleaned, checked thoroughly and prepared to meet production standards.

I also had my first experience observing how consultations with clients are carried out professionally within the studio environment, which I found very insightful and inspiring.

Another part I really enjoyed was assisting within the studio environment and seeing the teamwork, organisation and technical attention that goes into each stage of production. The experience has helped strengthen both my creative and technical understanding of the industry.

I especially appreciated how kind, supportive and welcoming everyone was throughout the week. Working alongside the teams gave me confidence and made the experience even more enjoyable.

This work experience has confirmed my ambition to continue developing within garment production, pattern cutting, studio support and training environments. I look forward to continuing my learning journey and hopefully gaining further experience with Fashion-Enter in the future whenever opportunities arise.
