27 Feb Supporting Caledonian Road’s Independent Businesses After the Flood
On 24th February, severe flooding caused widespread devastation along Caledonian Road, leaving many independent businesses facing significant damage to their premises, equipment and stock. For some traders, the impact has been overwhelming, disrupting livelihoods, halting trade, and creating real uncertainty about how, and in some cases whether, they can fully recover.
The worst-affected stretch runs from Copenhagen Street down to the canal, where a number of long-standing local businesses are now navigating costly repairs and replacement of essential equipment. While compensation discussions are ongoing, any potential support from Thames Water will not fully cover the losses many traders have incurred. For small independents operating on tight margins, this gap could be the difference between reopening and permanent closure.
In response, the Caledonian Traders Association has launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide direct financial support to those most affected. Funds raised will be distributed based on need and the scale of recovery required, ensuring help reaches the businesses facing the greatest challenges.
Caledonian Road’s independent traders are a vital part of the local creative and business ecosystem. They bring character, employment, and community resilience to the area. Now, they need collective support to rebuild.

We are asking our FC Designer Workspace community to help spread the word. Please share the fundraiser using the official posters and social media materials across your channels, networks and professional contacts. The greater the visibility, the stronger the support we can generate for those who need it.
