04 Nov Stitching & Upcycling 1-Day Workshop
On Friday 1st November the FC Designer Workspace held its popular Stitching & Upcycling 1-Day Workshop. Open to all the Workshop aims to encourage individuals to learn basic stitching skills and gain the confidence to rework existing items that would otherwise remain unworn or thrown away.

Tutor Manuela supported the group of attendees with step by step instructions on:
+ How to thread an industrial sewing machine
+ Learn different stitches and tensions
+ How to shorten and hem a trouser or skirt by hand
+ How to shorten and hem a trouser or skirt on a sewing machine
+ Learn about the different fabrics and how they are different in handling
+ How to insert a zip, buttons and trims
+ Techniques to upcycle an existing garment
+ Customisation
+ How to tailor an existing garment

During this Workshop shortening and hemming proved particularly useful as many used this technique on their own garments.
One of the attendees said: “I highly recommend this workshop. I have learnt the basics of how to use a sewing machine. Manuela was a fantastic teacher, always used very clear instructions and was so nice and patient.”
