17 Oct Reworked Textiles Saved at the Repair and Upcycle Drop In
On the 15th October FEL held its monthly edition of the Repair and Upcycle Drop-in workshop. Supported by Islington Council and held at the FC Designer Collective shop members of the public brought in items from home to work on.
Stitching technicians extraordinaire Leyla and Tanzi were on hand to support and advise. The fully booked session saw seven individuals turn up with a variety of projects to work on. One had a moth eaten cashmere jumper which she upcycled back into wearable life with some carefully positioned lace embroidery. While another refashioned a pair of Reebok jogging bottoms into a pair of shorts.
All that attended were thrilled with the advice and equipment available, ensuring their mends could be worn again and saved from landfill. When asked how the workshop could be improved several said they would like more regular drop-in dates, weekly if possible.
Please note, thanks to Islington Council we can provide these monthly workshops for free, for those wanting to attend sign up is required via our eventbrite page. These are casual, drop-in sessions, if you would like more instruction on using industrial machines or have a larger project to work on then please take a look at our 1-Day Beginners Upcycle workshop held at the FC Designer Workspace on Durham Road.
The next drop-in Repair and Upcycle workshop at FC Designer Collective is scheduled for Tuesday 12th November.
