Repair & Upcycling Workshop Brings Sustainable Fashion Skills to Fonthill Road

The FC Designer Workspace in Islington is continuing to support the local community with its free, bimonthly Repair and Upcycling Drop-In Workshops, hosted at the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road.

Made possible with support from Islington Council, the workshops provide an accessible space for local people to bring clothing from home and learn practical ways to repair, alter and give garments a new lease of life.

The latest session on 11th August attracted 15 attendees, with participants working on a wide range of garments including trousers, dresses, tops and a coat. Some visitors were repairing damaged items, while others were altering garments to improve the fit or transforming existing clothing into something new.

The hands-on nature of the sessions means participants can work on their own projects while gaining practical knowledge and sharing ideas with others interested in making fashion more sustainable.

The response has been extremely positive, with attendees describing the session as excellent and one participant commenting:

“We need more events like this.”

The workshops are part of FC Designer Workspace’s commitment to supporting sustainable fashion practices, skills development and community engagement, helping people to extend the life of their clothes rather than throwing them away.

The next free, drop-in Repair and Upcycling Workshop will take place on: Tuesday 25th August

Places are limited, so participants are encouraged to register in advance if they plan to attend.

Workshop venue:
FC Designer Collective
113–115 Fonthill Road

The shop is conveniently located close to Finsbury Park Tube Station.
