11 Nov Learners Gain Deeper Insight On The Fashion Factory Tour
Tutor Ana Cover said: “As part of our on going enrichment program for all of our learners I always take my students to the Fashion-Enter Ltd factory at Haringey. We give them an in-depth review and tour explaining how a factory works. We look at batch production in Unit 14 and then we go into Unit 4 and show how a micro factory works. This is called one-piece-flow.
“I know the feedback from the students was excellent as it compounds the learning that they have done over the last five weeks and with some 10-weeks for the Level two.
“We are in a unique position with a Fashion Technology Academy as we have the backdrop of an ethical factory to show learning into industrial reality. This is why I love my job! It’s always evolving.”
The tour lasted a total of 5-hours and included 6 potential local Islington people who are looking for work and want to understand how FEL can provide employment.
During the tour we discuss the different types of jobs that are available within the garment life cycle and explain that not everyone can be a designer and own their own brand.
Jenny Holloway commented: “We try and give everyone a rounded view of fashion and explain that there are some excellent jobs in production, quality assurance, patterns, fitting, etc as well as STEM jobs such as merchandising and mechanical engineering and maintenance. These tours are invaluable as they provide the setting of what working in the industry is really all about.”
FEL also offers CV support, presentation techniques and how to prepare for that all important interview too.
