It All Starts From Level 1…

At the FC Designer Workspace our aim is to launch each learner on their fashion making journey. Whether that’s repairing, upcycling and making at home, or continuing on to further education or a career in fashion.

The team love to hear how individuals have progressed and one recent example is Taylor, a former Level 1 Stitching student. It’s fantastic news that Taylor, who started out on Level 1 Stitching is now at the University of the Arts London, on a fashion degree course.

Taylor always stood out as a highly motivated learner, he always worked that bit extra, he was dedicated to the course and it’s with great pleasure that we can confirm that the Head of the FTA, Ingrid Homes, recently met with Taylor at the UAL’s MA Fashion Entrepreneurship & Innovation Demo Day.

FEL CEO Jenny Holloway commented:

As part of our social value matrix for Islington Council and the Affordable Workspace Program we have to prove how we invest with local residents and empower them to upskill. Taylor has been part of our program for AW18 career and mentoring support for young people under 24 for nearly two years with four qualifications that have upskilled Taylor in stitching and pattern making. He excelled at every single course. Taylor is now with the UAL’s Fashion Entrepreneurship program and also a new Level 3 that we are undertaking with CCCG. We meet Taylor each Wednesday and Friday for a total of 34 weeks.

“However, Taylor is unusual because he has now started his own business too which means we are supporting on AW21.1 Change Management, AW21.2 Supply Chain, AW21.4 Financial SW 21.9 Business Advice and Development, AW21.14 Marketing (this is a huge area for micro businesses) and finally market research which is AW21.16

I certainly think this demonstrates how entrepreneurial Taylor is. He has managed to access support at every level of his business development! He surely will be a leading fashion brand in time!”
