Friendly, Fun and Fantastic – Drop In Repair & Upcycle Workshop

On the 13th August the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road was open for a day of repairs, alterations and upcycling projects. Supported by Islington Council the initiative aims to support the general public with their home sewing projects to ensure textile and clothing longevity.

These monthly sessions have become very popular and the number of attendees is restricted to ensure everyone gets advice and support, along with time on the equipment they need to use.

From stitching graphics to a vest top and making a summer dress to reusing fabrics for patchwork projects, our highly experienced stitching technician Leyla was on hand to provide guidance.

The drop-in session is about developing the skills of attendees so that their sewing confidence and competence grows. Attendees also get to socialise and hear all about Fashion-Enter’s courses and masterclasses as well as receive advice on career’s and opportunities within the borough.

All 14 attendees ticked the ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’ box when filling out the feedback forms at the end of the day.

Further comments from attendees included:

“Thank-you Leyla, very helpful and the teachers were lovely and willing to help.”

“The staff have extensive knowledge of how to make the alterations. The industrial machines are slightly scary but I feel more confident about using them than I did when I came last time. I really hope I’m able to book a place again and finish off my ongoing project! Thank you.”

“Most enjoyable crowd and Leyla was very helpful, patient and very accommodating.”

“Fantastic workshop.”

“This workshop gave me the confidence to get on with a project that I’ve been too nervous to start. Great, thanks!”

“Lovely event, very friendly, would love to attend again.”

The next free Repair and Upcycle monthly at the FC Designer Collective shop will take place Tuesday 10th September, to attend please register via eventbrite.
