05 Sep Free Upcycling Workshops at FC Designer Collective

Do have piles of much-loved garments in desperate need of repair? A piece of clothing that you cherish that you just can’t bear to discard? Registration for a series of free drop-in upcycling workshops in Islington is now open!

Taking place on a monthly basis at the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road in Finsbury Park. Attendees can pop-in with their own pre-loved items and learn how to repair or upcycle the item courtesy of Fashion-Enter Ltd in partnership with Islington Council.

Islington Life caught up with Founder and CEO of Fashion-Enter Ltd Jenny Holloway, to hear more about the project, and about how you can get involved:

“We’re delighted to be hosting a series of free drop-in upcycling workshops at our shop in the heart of Finsbury Park.

“Our team of passionate sewers will help you to restore any item of clothing that’s hidden away in your wardrobe. Led by Leyla, who has over 45-years of experience of working as an artisan seamstress, these drop-in sessions are designed with a ‘have-a-go’ mentality in mind, and no prior experience is necessary.

“The workshops are open specifically for Islington residents, and we’re delighted to be working with the Council and the local community to make this unique programme happen.

“Sustainability is at the heart of what we’re doing here. The fashion industry is the second dirtiest polluter in the planet, and there’s a huge amount of greenwashing going on in the industry. But with these workshops we’re going back to basics –  really there is nothing more sustainable than upcycling pre-loved garments.”

The first workshop is being held on Tuesday 12 September, 10am – 5pm

The FC Designer Collective shop is equipped with industrial machines, cutting tables and haberdashery, while this is a drop-in session registration is advised.
