29 Apr FEL X YMCA Youth Programme Workshop
On the 28th April, the FEL team held a Repair and Upcycling workshop in collaboration with the YMCA Youth Programme. The aim of the workshop was to teach and empower 15 young individuals with practical sewing and upcycling skills.
Led by Fashion-Enter Ltd’s expert tutors at the FC Designer Workspace, participants learnt essential techniques for repairing, altering, and upcycling garments, giving new life to clothing while supporting sustainability.

The group were taught:
- How to thread and use an industrial sewing machine
- Understanding different stitch types and tension settings
- Techniques for shortening and hemming trousers or skirts by hand and with a machine (both woven and jersey fabrics)
- Fabric fundamentals: Learn how to handle and differentiate between fabric types
- Inserting zippers, buttons, and decorative trims
- Creative upcycling techniques to transform existing garments
- Customization: Adding personal touches to make garments unique
- Tailoring basics to adjust garments to fit your body shape
The group were also encouraged to bring in items from home to repair or upcycle to apply their new stitching skills and to support textile reuse.
Feedback was excellent and included:
“The teachers were magnificent and the experience was very enriching since I learned new sewing techniques.”
“I learnt about threading a machine, stitching and hand sewing. Loved it so much, thank you for your time.”
“I would definitely recommend this course to others – very helpful, the staff were lovely.”
