20 Feb February Repair and Upcycling Drop In For Islington Residents
On Tuesday 13th February, members of the FEL team held the monthly edition of the Repair and Upcycle drop-in at the FC Designer Collective shop. Located on Fonthill Road, just minutes away from Finsbury Park tube station, the shop is equipped with industrial machines, tables, equipment, fabrics and trims, as well as highly experienced tutors.
Held each month, the Repair and Upcycle drop-in gives Islington residents the chance to repair or upcycle items from their wardrobe, giving them a new lease of life and keeping them out of landfill.
One attendee said: “Today I used an overlocker, made a bag and fixed the hems on my jeans. This is an amazing workshop and Maria is a great teacher!”
Other attendees also used the overlocker to make a hoodie, jorts and scrunchies, as well as hand repair buttons and holes.
On site to advise and support Maria added: “One lady brought a huge bag of old garments so she could repair and use what she could as trimmings / fabric patches. Another needed help with a hole in the crotch of her favourite jeans so I helped create a new seam line. With no previous experience she also made two bags out of an old denim jacket. Her mum and grandma sew so now she believes it’s her time to learn.”
The monthly repair and upcycle workshops run once a month and the next session is scheduled for Tuesday 19th March tap here to find out more and book your place.
