27 Jul FC Designer Workspace and ReFAB Studio Conclude Successful Community Workshop Series with Final Session

On Friday 24th July, Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) hosted the final ReFAB Studio community workshop at FC Designer Workspace in Islington, bringing a successful 12-part series of free upcycling and sewing workshops to a close.

Supported by The Clothworkers’ Company, the programme was created to promote sustainable fashion practices while equipping participants with valuable practical sewing and upcycling skills that can be applied to personal projects and further learning.

The final workshop welcomed 15 attendees, who spent the day transforming luxury fabric waste into practical items such as tote bags, cosmetic bags and cushion covers while developing their confidence using industrial sewing machines and overlockers.

Over the course of the 12 workshops, the project proved to be a fantastic success, engaging members of the local community as well as groups including the YMCA. Every workshop was fully booked, demonstrating the growing interest in sustainable fashion, textile reuse and accessible creative skills training.

Participants stated that they had developed greater confidence using industrial machinery, improved their sewing techniques and gained practical skills they can continue to build on in the future.

One participant, Chiaki, shared a heartfelt letter of thanks with the FC Designer Workspace team following the workshops, writing:

“This workshop gave me much more than sewing skills. It helped me build self-confidence, and I was happy to make new friends. These are experiences that I will always value.”

The feedback from the final workshop on 24th July reflected the positive impact of the entire programme, with participants praising both the skills they had gained and the supportive learning environment.

The feedback highlighted recurring themes of increased confidence, improved technical skills, patient tuition and the strong sense of community fostered throughout the workshops.

The success of this collaboration demonstrates the value of community-led creative education in promoting circular fashion while helping individuals develop practical skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.
