Cllr Rowena Champion visits FCDC and reviews learners upcycling from dead stock

We were delighted to welcome Cllr Champion to the FCDC at 113-115 Fonthill Road to review a small free class that was held by FEL to upcycle and repair old stock.

15 local residents attended a free half day seminar that was supported by Ana, Leah, Jenny and managed by Leyla the shop manageress. Leyla commenced by demonstrating how to safely use each of the machines on site, lockstick, overlocker and coverstitch and then went on to show each participant how to thread the machine.

Then the learners started to create new designs from dead stock, upcycle existing garments by making long sleeve garments to short sleeve and also review applique and embroidery ideas too.

Cllr Rowena Champion is the Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Transport and is  Labour. Her ward is Barnsbury and she has held a variety of positions such as Grievance Appeal Committee, Health and Wellbeing Board, Personnel Sub Committee etc

Leyla commented; “I really enjoyed seeing  the cllr today because it shows exactly what we do at teh shop and how many people we can help.  We have machines here as part of the program that can be used by the community. We even had one person bring in their own domestic machine and I got the machine working for her”.

FEL is now looking forward to the My London Repair week on 20th-24th March 23. If you are interested to attend then please email beth@fashion-enter.com
