16 Apr April Edition of the Free Repair and Upcycle Drop In Session
Thanks to Islington Council, Fashion-Enter Ltd, has been providing free, monthly repair and upcycle drop-in sessions where the public can bring in items to repair or rework. Taking place at FEL’s shop – FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road, the space is equipped with industrial machines and haberdashery and can offer support and advice from experienced team members.
This month the session took place on 15th April and was hosted by Maria. Running in conjunction with Fashion Revolution Week the sold out session had 13 individuals coming in to wave the flag for mending and reusing existing garments.
Projects ranged from re-waisting trousers, adding a panel to a skirt, adding darts to a shirt, re-elasticating to general spring wardrobe repairs.
Feedback from the participants was really positive and many said that they would be back and that they would love it if there were more sessions throughout the month.
Comments included:
“Really great opportunity for the local community – I will be back! The workshop really helped with my sewing confidence.”
“I found the workshop very useful and would recommend to others. I would like it if it was on more often and if there could be a mending workshop.”
“It would be nice if this event took place at least 3 times every month!”
The next Free Repair and Upcycle Drop In will take place Monday 13th May at the FC Designer Collective, 113 – 115 Fonthill Road, London N4 – close to Finsbury Park tube station. Tap here for further details.
