22 Jul The Sampling Process – Masterclass
Today Production Director, Caroline Ash & Senior Pattern Cutter, Claire Solley broke down the in’s and out’s of how to start working with a manufacturer & what is required of you in the process.
Before starting the presentation, Caroline explained the many services of Fashion-Enter and focused on our key values, ethical manufacturing in the UK, and educating the next generation of skilled workers.
Next, they both started the presentation, first looking at what small businesses should do before the consultation. This included researching if the factory manufactures your desired garment, checking factory credentials, creating a tech pack, and carrying out market research.
During the consultation, you will work with one of the team to have a clear vision of the lines you want to be created with an accurate estimate of price and timing. If you already have a set date planned, it is key to communicate this to make sure it is viable.

Claire mentioned the importance of communication throughout the whole process. From start to finish you will be in close contact with the team to make sure all decisions on fabric, timescale, and pricing are correct.
When working on samples, it is best to start with the fit of size medium to allow for easier scaling. Also, it is good to base your fit on a person rather than a mannequin to ensure everyday wearability.

The workshop ended with a Q and A, where Claire answered questions about the different garments the fashion studio can make. The fashion studio can make anything from sportswear and clothing to cotton pads and cushions.
