SEG Awards Level 2 Certificate in Fashion & Textiles Stitching Academy
The ABC Awards Level 2 Stitching Academy is a twelve week course which follows on from level 1. You will develop your skills further by using industrial specialist machines, review blocks and understand design principles. By the end of the course you will have constructed a more tailored garment.
What you will study:
You will study 5 units, 25 credits in total which, upon successful completion, will gain you the ABC Level 2 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles.
Introduction to tailoring, 5 credits
You will gain an insight into the variety of styles for men’s and women’s tailoring, by using a range of machines and methods to produce samples in selected fabrics.
You will be expected to research independently into the different construction methods used in the tailoring industry. You will design variations based on a tailored jacket and apply technical drawing techniques to communicate your designs.
You will be introduced and taught how to identify and use specialist machinery and methods of construction and pressing, typically used in the fashion manufacturing industry. Based on this knowledge you will design and construct a jersey top, followed by a skirt with a pleat in a woven fabric.
You will gain an insight into co-ordinated soft furnishings. A mood board for a bedroom will be produced showing current trends, a colour scheme and a variety of soft furnishings. You will be shown how to select techniques appropriate to fabrics and threads and this will link to the other units.
From the beginning, your learning be practical with some written components. As you progress you will have the opportunity to produce a more tailored garment. Your progress will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are getting the most from your course.

What can I do once I have completed the course?
Upon successfully completing the course, you can seek employment with your new found skills, interview for bridge training or apply for an apprenticeship.
