School Children Join FEL To Learn About Digital and Made-To-Demand Fashion

On Wednesday 5th July Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) welcomed students from Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School, along with Labour’s Andy Slaughter MP and Children’s Parliament Champion Anna Firth MP, to see their winning digital designs come to life at FEL’s micro-factory in North London.

Over the past month, in line with London Tech Week 2023, Phygitaltwin, Fashion-Enter Ltd and Kornit Digital, joined forces on a sustainable fashion competition. Children’s Parliament Prime Minister, Harry Acheampong, aged 11, had made a passionate speech about the need for digital and made-to-demand fashion to combat the excessive waste and unsustainability issues that mar the fashion industry.

Throughout June, ex-Burberry Louise Laing, founder of Phygitaltwin.io has been educating and supporting the Year 6 children on how to use digital tools to create their own avatars and digital clothing designs. Many children have utilised digital designs/skins on gaming platforms such as Roblox but with Phygitaltwin these designs also have the option to be transformed into physical garments.

On Wednesday 5th July judges Jayne Pickering (Vogue, Marie Claire); Mary Fellowes and Amanda Eliasch, picked out three winning designs from the Year 6 students. The winning three, along with Harry Acheampong, were picked up, via a Green Tomato eco car and taken to Fashion-Enter’s micro-factory in North London.

Using the very latest Kornit Digital printing technology and experienced machinists the winners were able to see their garments become a reality right before their eyes! The young students also gained ethical factory insight with a guided tour of the factor from FEL’s Director, Caroline Ash, Callum Holloway who demonstrated how the machine is used and chaperoned by Gee and Jenny Holloway who answered questions regarding the fashion industry and new trends. The 3 hour tour was insightful and well received!

FEL CEO Jenny Holloway said: “We all know it’s a tough trading environment but when there are collaborations like this you realise how vibrant our glorious fashion industry is. Made to demand and in the UK is a viable and sustainable way forward!”

Founder of Phygitaltwin.io, Louise Laing commented: “Today we crowned the winners and saw this being printed on-demand in real time at Fashion-Enter Ltd’s factory.

“It was such an honour to be able to share the future of fashion production with these creative kids who’d put so much effort into planning and creating their unique designs!! Still can’t quite comprehend the day and what’s this means but as Jenny said it’s the synergy between all parties that can make this change happen.”
