On 23rd June business mentor and fashion industry expert Sally Leonard delivered a hugely insightful masterclass on business in fashion and how to run a fashion label successfully to our Workspace designers and learners on the stitching and pattern cutting courses.
A graduate of Central St Martins, Sally established her jewellery business, Leonard of London, in 2002, and was one of the first Fairtrade Gold licence holders in the world. She continues to design and produce high-end ethical bespoke pieces, alongside working as a business consultant for over 15 years, supporting and mentoring jewellery businesses of all ages, and as a member of various groups representing and supporting the local trade.

She has collaborated with a number of organisations including London College of Fashion, Centa Business Services and in September 2018 she became the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Business Development Tutor for the Setting Out programme, through her consultancy business, Pendeloque Consulting. (www.pendeloque.consulting).
Sally specialises in working with small, creative-led businesses to help them identify and reach their business and professional goals, in a way that works for the people involved. The three hour masterclass Sally offered as part of the Islington Business Recovery Fund, covered all the aspects designers need to consider when setting up on your own.

How do you pay yourself?
Who will you work with?
What are you doing this for?
Overall it was such an insightful session with everyone learning so much about the business side of being a designer.
