Sonia has over 30-years experience within garment manufacturing and construction and is an absolute asset to FEL – very highly valued. FEL was reviewing new ways of bringing industry into the learning environment and decided to bring 15 people in the morning and afternoon to review the garment life cycle and how the units that they are learning is embedded into factory processes.  The aim was to give the participants an insight into change management within the sector and how they need to work with factories when they want to work on their own collections.

Sonia commented: “It is the first time I have given a seminar combining education with industry best practices but I was pleasantly surprised how engaged the participants were and how much they already knew about the stitching process. By using the three units of the Level 1 qualification, which I believe was written by FEL, the factory at Haringey provides the perfect backdrop to compound learning and also help these participants to be prepared for their own collections. The majority of the people that arrived today want to be their own designer/maker. I really enjoyed imparting my knowledge and look forward to the next time! “

FCDW tutor Ana Cover said: “It is interesting to note that most of the Gen Z learners we have all want to work on their own collections, work within a hybrid environment and make in the UK in a sustainable way. This is why we add in this unique seminar from now on with Sonia. I had such fantastic feedback from the learners. This is beyond what we need to do in education but everyone needs to  understand how to work in the new fashion environment. Thank-you Sonia for your input.”

The 8-hour seminar was very well received and feedback included:

“I have learnt so much about what happens within production in a factory by actually seeing it in person. I wish I had heard about the courses sooner, they are very good courses.”

“I learnt more about Fashion-Enter as a company / college and what actually goes on in a factory.”

“10 out of 10.”
