03 Mar Free Workshops: Get Ready to Repair with FEL X Islington Council
This month Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) is thrilled to be involved, once again, with London Repair Week. Taking place from 20th – 26th March, London Repair Week encourages the community to gain practical repair skills as well as promote the use of existing repair services.
Members of the FEL team Jenny, Leyla, Beth and Jo have been working on a new concept for this year’s edition. They have perfected a four-day series of workshops that will allow the residents of Islington to gain free access to the machines and Leyla’s expertise at the FC Designer Collective shop.
CEO Jenny Holloway said: “FEL is proud to be working on this innovative circularity programme with Islington Council and London Repair Week and we’re determined to support as many people as possible during these difficult economic times.”

FEL has teamed up with Islington Council to host this series of repair and upcycling workshops starting from Monday 20th to Thursday 23rd at FEL’s shop; FC Designer Collective, 113 – 115 Fonthill Road, N4. During this period the shop will open its doors for locals to bring in their garments to be repaired, upcycled or redesigned, free of charge, thanks to funding from Islington Council. From 10:00 – 15:00 there will be support for attendees to use the industrial machines based at the shop under the careful guidance of Leyla, an experienced seamstress that has over 40-years expertise in alterations, repairs and upcycling.

The demand for repair is constantly rising. In 2022, 75% of Londoners said that we need to repair more if we are to tackle climate emergency, and that’s why we are encouraging the local residents of Islington to pop into the FC Designer Collective shop.
On Friday 25th March there will be a unique showcase of the best reclaimed garments at the shop providing a unique fashion experience for today.
FEL CEO Jenny Holloway commented: “It is well known that fashion is the world’s second dirty polluter on the planet today, with millions of garments being flown around the globe contributing to carbon emissions. Worse still is that the cost of a £30 purchase in the UK is an average cost of £20 for a return and 27% of that return then goes into landfill. We need to stop this senseless waste, and this starts at our retail shop on the iconic Fonthill Road. Come and join us!”
A full list of the events taking place to mark Repair Week in can be found on the Islington Life website.
Cllr Rowena Champion, Islington Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality, and Transport, said: “There are so many benefits to repairing and reusing, and doing so helps to reduce emissions and save money.
“If we’re to tackle the climate emergency, then we must make better use of the precious resources that we have and reduce the amount that we waste. Repair Week provides us all with an opportunity to get practical advice on how best we can do that.
“We all have old items that could do with a bit of love and care – instead of letting them gather dust, why not give them a new lease of life by taking them to one of our Repair Week events?”
