19 Jul Dar el Lina Event at the FC Designer Collective

On Monday 17th July 2023, modest brand Dar el Lina hosted an upcycling, shopping and socialising event at the FC Designer Collective shop. 

Dar el Lina is an Islamic modesty womenswear brand that offers original, innovative hijabs that do not require any pins, magnets or tape. Dar el Lina hijabs are made in the Fashion Studio at the Fashion-Enter factory and are created out of a natural bamboo jersey blend with standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, making them environmentally friendly and comfortable. 

The event ran from 10am – 4pm and attendees were able to shop Dar el Lina designs along with the option to sew and upcycle existing hijabs that they brought from home. The FEL team also provided scrap fabric and old clothing to use if they didn’t bring anything. Lots of amazing pieces were created such as purses, bags and skirts, also some ladies brought in items that they wanted to be altered. 

Leila and Jasmin helped out with sewing and advising the attendees on how to make certain garments. Overall, the ladies who took part enjoyed the event and took a strong liking to sewing and upcycling. 

During the event the 16 attendees were given advice and guidance regarding careers and how to obtain a job. Many of the women wanted to run their own businesses and were interested to understand how to start their own business and work from home.  CEO Jenny Holloway will be organising a masterclass to further discuss how to start up a micro business as  soul trader in August/September 2023 to accommodate the requests. 

Gee provided advice on the range of different apprenticeships that are undertaken from Product Technology and Fashion Studio Standard as itemised on www.fcfta.com  projects at home.
