22 Aug Community Comes Together for Free Repair & Upcycle Drop-In – 19th August
On Tuesday 19th August, the FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road opened its doors once again for a free community repair and upcycling drop-in session, supported by Islington Council. Designed to encourage clothing and textile reuse, the event welcomed members of the public to come together, learn new skills, and give their garments a second life.

The initiative, held every two weeks at the FC Designer Collective shop (113-115 Fonthill Road, London N4), aims to reduce textile waste and promote sustainable fashion through creative reuse and repair.

The latest session saw 10 attendees take part, many of whom worked on multiple items—from trousers and skirts to jackets and tote bags. With a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere, the shop was buzzing with activity and ideas.

Leyla, a skilled technician, was on hand throughout the day to offer expert guidance, tips, and support, helping participants make the most of their time and materials.
Feedback from the session was extremely positive. Attendees appreciated the chance to develop their practical skills in a welcoming environment, and many expressed interest in returning for future sessions.

If you missed the last session, don’t worry—these free drop-in repair and upcycle events take place every two weeks.
