10 Sep Opportunity: Studio Intern Wanted at Raquel de Carvalho

FC Designer Workspace tenant and London-based knitwear designer Raquel de Carvalho is currently looking for a Studio Intern to join her team from September to December 2026.

Based from Raquel’s North London studio, the part-time placement offers an opportunity for a fashion or knitwear learner to gain hands-on experience supporting the development of a new collection, working across pattern cutting, sewing, knitwear, crochet and upcycling.

About Raquel de Carvalho

Brazilian-born, London-based designer Raquel de Carvalho specialises in distinctive knitwear that combines traditional craft techniques with experimental textiles and contemporary design.

A graduate in Fashion Design from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, with postgraduate study at London College of Fashion, Raquel has previously gained experience with Calvin Klein and Gareth Pugh and worked alongside luxury Italian manufacturers producing pieces for internationally recognised fashion houses.

In 2022, Raquel won the Feel the Yarn competition for emerging knitwear designers at Pitti Immagine Filati in Florence. Her work has since been featured internationally in publications including The New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Elle and L’Officiel, while her designs have been worn by artists and performers and photographed by renowned fashion photographer Tim Walker.

Today, her collections explore specialist knitting and crochet alongside handcrafted and upcycled techniques, with a number of pieces made in London.

The Studio Internship

This is a practical studio-based role supporting Raquel and her design team throughout the development of the new collection.

The successful applicant will gain experience across:

• Supporting the design team throughout new collection development
• Tracing and adjusting patterns
• Cutting and sewing stretch fabrics
• Developing upcycled pieces
• Creating knitted and crochet samples
• Assisting with fittings

Who is Raquel looking for?

An interest in knitwear and textiles is essential, and the placement would particularly suit someone currently completing a placement year as part of a BA Fashion, Knitwear or related degree.

Applicants should have basic knowledge of sewing and pattern cutting, alongside knowledge of machine knitting and crochet.

Previous professional industry experience is not required, making this a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build practical studio experience and develop their understanding of the collection development process.

The position is part-time and runs from September until December 2026.
