24 Jul FC Designer Workspace Hosts Adult Safeguarding Workshop with Islington Council

At FC Designer Workspace, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for everyone who uses our spaces. As part of this commitment, we recently welcomed, on the 23rd July, Rachel Adelson-Kettle, Learning and Development Lead for Safeguarding Adults at Islington Council, to deliver an engaging Adult Safeguarding and Cuckooing Awareness workshop for tutors and learners.

The interactive session focused on raising awareness of adult safeguarding, helping participants recognise the signs that someone may be at risk, understanding how to respond to concerns, and knowing the correct procedures for reporting safeguarding issues. The workshop also explored the growing issue of cuckooing, where criminals exploit vulnerable people by taking over their homes to carry out illegal activities, and discussed how to identify the warning signs and seek appropriate support.

Through real-life case studies, group discussions and a lively Q&A session, attendees gained practical knowledge and greater confidence in responding to safeguarding concerns.

The feedback from participants highlighted the value of the training:

Manuela Taveras, Tutor, said: “Our safeguarding for adults in social care training was extremely relevant to my role as a teacher. It brought to my attention signs to look for and what I can do about it. It was very welcoming and informative, and I enjoyed learning from Rachel. I would highly recommend it to learners as well.”

Gintare Zeciene commented: “Very informative. Learners talked about online safety, where to report concerns, and how to report them. We were given many real-life stories and examples. Thank you so much.”

Louisa added: “Rachel was amazing. She has given me lots of information, and she spoke clearly and explained everything in detail. I have learnt a lot from this safety awareness training. Thank you.”

Lan Leeder, FEL/FTA Head of Education, also praised the session: “A fantastic workshop—very engaging and informative about safeguarding. I now know what to do if there are signs of safeguarding. A great session!”

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and workshops like this play an important role in ensuring that staff, tutors and learners have the knowledge and confidence to recognise concerns and respond appropriately.
