20 Jul ReFab Studio x FEL Community Workshop Continues to Inspire Sustainable Creativity

On Friday 17th July, Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) delivered the eleventh session of the ReFab Studio x FEL free community workshop programme. Supported by The Clothworkers’ Company, the 12-part initiative continues to promote sustainable fashion practices while equipping participants with valuable practical sewing and upcycling skills that can be applied to personal projects, further learning, and future employment opportunities.

This latest workshop welcomed 16 participants, who spent the day transforming reclaimed luxury fabrics into bespoke cushion covers. By repurposing high-quality surplus textiles into practical homeware, the session demonstrated how creative upcycling can reduce textile waste while giving new life to premium materials that might otherwise go unused.

Working under the guidance of FEL’s experienced tutors, participants developed a range of professional sewing techniques throughout the workshop. These included accurately cutting patterns, constructing seams, overlocking fabric edges, and pressing finished pieces to achieve a professional standard. Attendees also watched demonstrations on how to correctly thread and operate industrial sewing machines before applying their new knowledge to create their own finished cushion covers.

The workshop not only introduced participants to industry-standard equipment and techniques but also encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and confidence building within a welcoming and supportive learning environment. By the end of the session, attendees had produced beautiful, bespoke cushion covers while developing practical skills that can be transferred to future sewing projects and everyday life.

The final session of the programme will take place on Friday 24th July, bringing to a close a highly successful collaborative community project. Over the course of 12 workshops, participants have gained practical sewing and upcycling skills for life, increased their confidence using industrial equipment, and embraced sustainable fashion practices by creatively repurposing surplus textiles into high-quality, functional products.
