Creativity and Career Inspiration at New River College Medical

On Wednesday 24th June, Fashion-Enter Ltd’s Head of Education, Lan Leeder, led an engaging art and craft session for students at New River College Medical in Islington.

New River College Medical is an alternative provision supporting children and young people aged 11 to 16 with medical, mental health and wellbeing needs. The school works with pupils experiencing a range of ongoing challenges, including emotional-based school avoidance, anxiety, self-harm, adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

During the session, students took part in a tote bag decoration workshop, giving them the opportunity to experiment with different design techniques, express their creativity and build confidence in their artistic abilities. The activity encouraged self-expression while providing a relaxed and enjoyable environment for participants to explore their ideas.

Alongside the practical workshop, students were introduced to the wide range of courses available through the Fashion Technology Academy, as well as the broader training pathways and career opportunities within the fashion and textiles industry. The session aimed to inspire young people to see fashion not only as a creative outlet but also as a potential future career.

Lan Leeder said: “It was lovely to engage with the students at New River College Medical. The group is very creative and artistic, as reflected in their tote bags. Thank you to New River College Medical for organising the session.”

The workshop forms part of FC Designer Workspace’s ongoing commitment to supporting young people through creative engagement, helping them develop new skills, explore career possibilities and gain confidence through hands-on learning experiences.
