09 Apr Repair & Upcycling Workshop Brings Sustainable Skills to Fonthill Road
On Tuesday 7th April, the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road welcomed local residents for another successful Repair and Upcycling Drop-In session. Hosted as part of the FC Designer Workspace initiative and supported by Islington Council, the free workshop continues to build momentum as a valuable community resource focused on sustainability, creativity, and practical skills.

This latest session saw 11 attendees take part, many arriving with multiple garments ready for a second life. From re-hemming summer shorts to applying patch pockets, inserting new waistbands and transforming a floral shirt through upcycling, the workshop offered hands-on opportunities for participants to repair, customise, and reimagine their clothing.

Attendees discovered the session through a mix of Eventbrite listings and word-of-mouth recommendations – an encouraging sign of growing local awareness. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the initiative as “excellent” and expressing strong interest in returning for future sessions.

While the atmosphere was collaborative and productive, some attendees noted that additional sewing machines would help reduce wait times and allow even more people to work simultaneously – an insight that will help shape future sessions as demand continues to grow.

These fortnightly workshops not only provide practical repair skills but also promote more conscious consumption by encouraging people to extend the life of their clothing. In doing so, they contribute to wider environmental goals while strengthening community connections.

The next Repair and Upcycling Drop-In session will take place on Tuesday 21st April. Those interested in attending can reserve a free place via Eventbrite:
