10 Apr Inspiring the Next Generation: Free Taster Workshop for 16–18 Year-Olds

On Thursday 9th April, the Fashion Technology Academy at its Islington campus, FC Designer Workspace, opened its doors to young creatives for an engaging Free Sewing Workshop designed for 16–18 year-olds. The session aimed to introduce prospective students to the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice, starting in September 2026.

The workshop provided an exciting, hands-on opportunity for participants to step into a professional learning environment and experience what studying at the Fashion Technology Academy is all about. With a strong turnout, the session attracted enthusiastic learners keen to explore future pathways in fashion and design.

Throughout the day, attendees were introduced to a range of industrial sewing machines, gaining practical experience in threading, operating, and experimenting with different techniques. For many, it was their first time using professional equipment—making the experience both memorable and empowering.

In addition to developing core sewing skills, participants were able to explore the wider course offering at the Academy. Tutors were on hand to discuss the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication—a two-year programme tailored for students aged 16 and above. Learners also had the opportunity to view student portfolios, ask questions, and gain valuable insight into the structure and outcomes of the course.

The workshop not only introduced technical skills but also helped attendees build confidence, spark creativity, and envision their potential within the fashion industry.
