13 Apr ReFAB Studio X FEL Free Community Workshop Part 4: Empowering Creativity Through Sustainable Design
On 10th April 2026, FC Designer Workspace hosted another inspiring session in its ongoing commitment to accessible fashion education and community engagement. The fourth instalment of the ReFAB Studio x Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) / FashionCapital collaborative workshop series brought together individuals eager to explore sustainable design through hands-on learning.
This free cushion / pillow-making workshop formed part of a wider initiative supported by The Clothworkers’ Company, aimed at equipping local communities with practical skills while promoting circular fashion principles. By combining creativity with sustainability, the programme continues to demonstrate how upcycling can be both accessible and impactful.
Participants were introduced to a range of essential techniques, including pattern cutting, sewing, and garment construction. Many had the opportunity to work with industrial sewing machines for the first time, gaining valuable insight into professional practices. The session also explored interior textiles, encouraging attendees to think beyond traditional fashion applications and consider how sustainable methods can extend into homeware or product design.

A key focus of the workshop was circular economy thinking – reimagining existing materials and reducing waste through thoughtful design. Attendees learned how to transform unused fabrics into functional, beautifully crafted cushions, or other items such as make-up bags, highlighting the potential of upcycling in everyday creative practice.

The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting both the quality of teaching and the welcoming environment:
“Really liked the course, teachers helped every minute – showing you what to do step-by-step.”
“I had a wonderful and warm welcome from everyone. The reception and teachers have a wonderful wealth of knowledge which they communicate effectively and are friendly. I can’t wait to return.”
“Excellent and friendly staff, welcoming. The course was interesting and useful.”
“Learnt how to insert a zip for the first time, to add embellishments and more professional finishes.”
“It was such a valuable learning experience and I’m so excited to continue my practice at home – and to also attend the next workshop.”
“The workshop was brilliant, so good to learn new skills.”

Beyond technical skills, the workshop fostered confidence, creativity, and a sense of community among attendees. Many left feeling inspired to continue developing their craft independently and to return for future sessions.
