The recent Introduction to Draping class at FC Designer Workspace in Islington was a day filled with creativity, learning, and inspiration, led by award-winning designer John Herrera. Known for his dynamic teaching style and wealth of industry experience, John guided students through the fascinating art of draping transforming flat fabric into beautifully shaped garments.

Participants were immersed in the hands-on process of draping a bodice with darts, exploring how this essential technique can bring structure, shape, and elegance to a design. Students also learned how to drape cowl necks, sleeves, and skirts, discovering how every fold and twist of fabric can become a statement of artistry.

Course Overview

In this one-day workshop (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM), you’ll:

• Work with muslin/calico
• Learn how to drape a bodice with darts
• Explore draping techniques for different necklines, including cowl styles
• Understand essential tools and terminology for draping and pattern cutting

No prior experience is required the class is designed to be beginner-friendly and accessible to anyone with a passion for fashion design.
