Creative Community Spirit at FC Designer Collective’s Free Repair and Upcycle Workshop

The FC Designer Collective shop once again opened its doors for the popular bi-monthly Drop-In Repair and Upcycle Workshop, held on Tuesday, 7th October. This free community event, supported by Islington Council, invites local residents to bring along items from home in need of repair or a creative refashioning into something new.

Guiding the session was the Collective’s very own “Queen of Seams” Leyla, whose expert advice and friendly encouragement helped participants breathe new life into their garments. With sewing machines and a well-stocked haberdashery available, attendees had everything they needed to get creative and confident with their repairs.

This particular session welcomed a small but enthusiastic group of five attendees. Despite being a little quieter than usual, the relaxed atmosphere gave everyone plenty of time to make the most of Leyla’s one-to-one support. One participant focused on repairing pyjamas and trousers, while another took on the challenge of reworking a top and a dress.

Feedback from the group was overwhelmingly positive, with participants rating the session “Good to Excellent.” All agreed they would be keen to return for future workshops.

The FC Designer Collective’s repair and upcycle sessions take place every 2 weeks on a Tuesday, offering local residents the chance to learn new skills, share ideas, and promote sustainability through creativity.
