11 Apr FEL and Islington Council Review Sustainable PPE Production
Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) and Islington Council are currently reviewing a new program that could create a true sustainable and ethical circular economy in the borough.
Following meetings with Chair Lord Young and FEL CEO Jenny Holloway, two North London NHS Trusts are now reviewing the viability of:
- Creating new gowns and scrubs that have improved fit using Style3D AI to reduce sampling costs.
- Reviewing dry cleaning businesses in the borough to explore the opportunity of upgrading the machines to be in compliance with the stringent PPE rquirements for cleaning.
- FEL is analysing different fabric bases and avatars ready to design and create a new range of PPE that can fit the NHS staff.
Jenny commented: “During the height of the pandemic FEL really did rise to the challenge and stopped all production of garments to support the NHS. At one point we were making 20,000 units a week of one-use-wear gowns which we thought was an awful waste! Making so many garments knowing that they would end up in landfill just seemed so wrong which is why we created a reusable gown (pictured below) which was equivalent to a cost of just £20p a wear.”

FEL is currently at the planning stage and looking forward to working closely with the NHS Trust and Islington Council.
