Scanning and Upcycling at the Collective

On 27th and 28th June, the FC Designer Collective was buzzing with activity with N Brown’s 3D body scanner and on-site upcycling taking place.

To maintain an up-to-date, accurate representation of customers’ body shapes, N Brown regularly invites members of the public to be scanned and over the two-day duration, the scanner was located at FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road.

The data collected will be used to create master patterns and 3D avatars for product development, providing a more accurate reflection of customers’ body shapes, facilitating further improvements and consistency of fit for N Brown customers.

N Brown was particularly interested in collecting data from individuals that are a UK size 18 and up and offered a free garment as a thank-you for participating.

This simultaneously ran with on-site upcycling facilities, members of the public could upcycle their free N Brown garment or other garments in the shop to adjust fit or to customise to their own taste.

Those local to Fonthill Road, London N4, right next to Finsbury Park tube station, were welcome to pop in. During the 2-day event there were over 60 local attendees that came into the shop and undertook free instruction on how to use the industrial machines. This was a fun exercise but the aim was to discuss their careers and how to kick start their careers in fashion by starting as a micro business.

Over the last year there is a clear trend in Islington that is anti-fast fashion and there is a growing trend towards repairs and alterations and young designers creating their own fashion businesses and selling online with places such as Depop and Vinted. This career mentoring advice took place at the shop at 113-115 Fonthill Road and is evidenced by the wide cross section of images taken at the event.

The FC Designer Collective, 113-115 Fonthill Road, London N4 is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 5pm, all are welcome to pop in to browse local designers, get an alteration, shop for fabric and trims, or to enquire about the next upcycling and stitching events.
