25 May Supporting local VCSE – Crisis
Working with local charities is absolutely at the heart of FEL and internal social aims. We have already worked with Crisis on tote bags and working to produce action plans to help their clients find work and upskill so they can be ready to start their careers and move away from homelessness.
Recently Gee has been promoted so she is leading on new development work for the FC Designer Workspace and FC Designer Collective shop. Here is a snapshot of the work Gee is undertaking:

On Friday 19th May, Jenny and I met with the lovely Kim Collins from Crisis to discuss all the potential opportunities we could bring to the community at our shop on Fonthill Road. We have hosted upcycling classes in the past, we have teamed up with the council and businesses such as YOOX Net-a-porter which have been super successful. In the meeting we learnt that peer to peer sales are 11x more than retail sales at the moment, so this means that people are selling unwanted items through websites such as Vinted, eBay, Depop etc.
This is amazing for sustainability, but we cannot always guarantee the items we buy online are in perfect condition or will fit properly, this is why we are hoping to team up with Crisis to hold regular upcycling classes!
The meeting with Kim was really supportive. We spent 3-hours going through different scenarios on how we can provide support for Crisis and their staff and also their clients.
We are now moving forward on bids together with the Islignton Council to find a way of hosting regular upskilling sessions at our shop so we can develop a real sense of community. Everyone is having a hard time at the moment and by putting on these weekly classes we hope to get some borough love back!
