20 Feb Fantastic 4 Day Course Feedback – “I learnt so much.”
Last week, from the 13th February, the FC Designer Workspace held its popular 4 Day Beginners Sewing and Upcycling workshop. This class was full to capacity and included learners that had places courtesy of the Fashion Impact Fund.

Most of the group entered the Workspace with limited stitching knowledge and within just 4 days left knowing how to successfully operate an industrial sewing machine, understand and cut a pattern, make basic garments and techniques to upcycle an existing garment. All of the attendees plan to continue utilising their new skills at home with some wanting to gain further knowledge.

The group was also highly impressed with the tutors on-hand along with the facilities at the Workspace. Feedback included:
“I learnt how to follow patterns and use an overlocker. Thank-you!”
“Thanks for a great course.”
“I learnt how to stitch and pattern cut. I also gained a few tips and stuff I never thought about. I also made a t-shirt, skirt and wallet. Everything was lovely. The course was funded and I got to experience this for free and I really appreciate this opportunity.”
“Thank-you to the teachers, I learnt how to stitch and make clothes – they helped me when I was stuck and were supportive and reassuring to me when I kept messing up!”
“Overall a really good experience and really helpful tutors.”
“I learnt how to use different machines and gained confidence constructing garments. Thank-you for a great week!”
“I learnt all I need to carry on stitching outside.”
“I loved this course. It had just the right level of information for someone who had never sewed before and the instructors were so lovely and helpful. I feel this course has put me in good stead to continue learning at home. Thank-you.”
“Fabulous course. Three great tutors. Learnt masses. Great atmosphere. Good pace. Thank-you billions!”
“I learnt so much. The trainers are excellent, very patient and nothing felt too much for them. They were happy to repeat instructions without going crazy. Thank-you, it has been a fantastic 4-days.”
FEL CEO Jenny Holloway added: “I was absolutely delighted to read the feedback on this course. These employment support and skills classes are all part of our Social Value that FEL brings to the Islington community. We had 25 people on the four-day course which actually extended to five-days as it was so popular. Of the 25 individuals 18 were Islington residents and the FEL team of Beth, Ana, Eliza, Leah, May, Gintare, Rishtia and Jenny were all involved in the course.
“These courses take so much time to organise and prep but they are so worth it. We know that we have helped people start their own businesses and upskilled the participants so they can attend an interview and have confidence to speak about stitching skills! Big well done to the stitching team of Ana, Eliza, May and Gintare.”
The next 4 Day Beginners Sewing and Upcycling Workshop will take place 10th – 13th April tap here for more info and to book.
