Half Term 4-Day Sewing Course at the FC Designer Workspace

During half term 24th – 28th October 2022, the FC Designer Workspace opened its doors to offer a 4-day Sewing course. The FC Designer Workspace team have offered this 4-day option before during the summer and the feedback was excellent. The plan is to offer these 4-day course options throughout the year to give those that are interested to chance to plan and book their place.

Attendees get to learn from scratch how to use an industrial sewing machine and by the final day they have enough knowledge and skills to start making garments. This short course is open to anyone that is interested in making their own clothes and can be adapted for complete beginners through to those that have some stitching experience.

Feedback from this October session was brilliant once again, and our FC Designer Workspace tutors were able to give lots of one-to-one support and tips.

One attendee said: “I’ve learnt a lot from this course. I would love to come back for more courses, especially for evening and Saturday classes.”

Another added: “I gained sewing skills on a variety of pro sewing machines and gained confidence to start sewing more at home. It was a great class! I was glad that the class was small I don’t think I would have learnt so much in a bigger class. 10 out of 10.”

Jenny Holloway commented: “It’s important that we offer our state-of-the-art facilities and expertise to the wider community. Sewing is a lifetime skill that people can utilise at home throughout their lives. The more people that gain confidence in their stitching the better – as they are more likely to repair and remake the textiles they already have, putting less pressure on waste and landfill. The team really enjoy seeing how learners quickly develop their skills and look forward to the next 4-day session in February.”

Ana Cover tutor commented: “This was a great four-day course and the local people that attended absolutely loved this course. They learnt so much during the four days. We don’t just teach teaching skills either. When they are here we review the different jobs that are in the industry, rates of pay, how to work for yourself and I am always referring people to the masterclasses and seminars that are all free on the FashionCapital website. This is what we do! We are here to help as many people as we can in fashion today.”
