Supporting Positive Mental Wellbeing at FC Designer Workspace

In August Fashion-Enter Ltd began to gear up for the new academic year and reviewed resources and upgrades in their workbooks. In education there is a constant changing landscape with new upgrades in Prevent, Safeguarding and Wellbeing which regulates the learners, the FC Designer Workspace designers / tenants, and of course staff.

Recently two members of staff have undertaken Mental Health Wellbeing First Aid courses; Lan Leeder, Tutor of Patterns and CEO Jenny Holloway.

Jenny explained why this is so important: “My mother suffered from a life time of mental health issues and I realised very early on in my childhood that money is absolutely inconsequential to having poor mental health. My mother never worked, she became unwell when I was four and was sectioned a year later. She then spent the best part of 45-years being institutionalised within the mental health system. Such a tragic waste.”

With this background Jenny always said she would open her own social enterprise that would help people with mental health issues and support people that basically needed to have hope in their lives. This is why education is at the ethos of the Fashion-Enter Ltd combined with a non-blame culture and a flat management structure to enable everyone to have a voice and have their say in the company.

The mental health first aider course allows for a company to be able to create a WAP – a Wellbeing Action Plan to support learners that disclose mental health issues. The two-day course provides a strong insight to a wide cross section of conditions and how best to support individuals and those around the individual too.

Lan Leeder further commented: “This was such an excellent course and I would recommend every company to have someone trained in Mental Health Wellbeing.”
