16 Jun Celebrating Islington Employment Success!
On 9th June we attended the employment celebration event hosted by Islington Council to celebrate the achievements since the launch of the Islington Employment Commission and plans for the future four years ago.
Lead by leader of the council Councillor Kaya Comer-Schwartz and Councillor Santiago Bell-Bradford, Executive Member for Inclusive Economy and Jobs the breakfast event celebrated the huge achievement of the initial target of 4,000 jobs being surpassed with over 5,000 Islington residents being supported into employment in the last four years.
This has created jobs for black and ethnic minorities, single parents during Brexit and a global pandemic.
‘What we have done is special and important to people we have been supporting.’

The FC Designer Workspace and retail shop in Islington is part of this mission by providing jobs and supporting people into work. We have been based in Islington since November 2019 with the retail shop selling local designers products, and the affordable workspace launched in September 2021 offering skills training in sewing and pattern cutting as well as business support and studio space to 10 local start-up businesses. In additions jobs have been created as a retail assistant, receptionist and assistant tutors.
By 2026 the borough aims to reach a further 5,000 residents into employment all being paid the London Living Wage. Youth employment will be enhanced and a childcare bursary will be introduced allowing parents to receive the first 8-weeks of childcare for free.
We are proud to be part of this inspiring initiative with Islington Council.
