29 Nov ‘Great Experience Lovely People’ – Repair and Upcycling Workshop 25th November
On Friday 25th November the FC Designer Workspace team held another successful Repair and Upcycling Workshop. These popular monthly sessions are free and aim to encourage and inspire the local community to come into the Workspace and see what we have to offer, as well as keep existing wardrobe items in circulation for longer.
During this session we had attendees working on denim jeans, blouses and dresses, reworking fit issues or upcycling into something new. The tutors on-hand encouraged the attendees to ‘have a go’ on the machines available, and also informed those that were interested on our courses and the employment options available in the industry.
During these in-depth workshops the tutors review how to recycle and upcycle garments by reviewing construction, different machines and threads and fit and form by the use of live models as well as mannequins.
The 6-hour free seminar aims to support less waste in the economy by creating new garments from old but also FEL uses the workshops as a conduit to the courses but also for employment too by discussing the different jobs that are available within the stitching and machining sector. During the seminars the tutors will speak to each of the attendees to discover what their aims and aspirations are with work and with this particular seminar all of the attendees wanted to become self employed and work on their own brands.
Feedback was extremely positive and included:
“I got to use the overlocker. This was a great experience with lovely people.”
“Today I learnt how to upcycle garments and how to use different fabrics together. I was able to refresh learning from a previous course on industrial machines. Excellent.”
“I learnt to shorten and hem trousers. Also used an overlocker to make a top smaller in size from the side. The staff were excellent and helped me all the way. They encouraged me to complete my alteration. I love coming to this centre and will return next month with more of my projects. Everything was 5 stars *****.”
“Very welcoming and helpful course in upcycling.”
The next Repair and Upcycle Workshop will take place Friday 9th December 2022 tap here to book your place.
