29 Oct Repair and upcycle workshop success
On 29th October we hosted a free repair and upcycle workshop as part of the ‘Let’s talk about a Greener Future Islington Together festival which ran from 18th – 29th October in the borough.
Local residents were able to drop into the workspace for a free workshop, and were encouraged to bring items from their wardrobe that they no longer wear.
Over 15 people attended with garments they wanted to repair and upcycle to inject a new lease of life into their clothes, from adding sleeves, shortening hems to mending old clothes.
One person bought a crop top she could no longer wear so to make the item wearable they cut part of a pillow case and added it to the bottom of the crop top to make a billowing shirt!
Another lady bought in a pair of trousers and jacket which was then make into a jumpsuit!
It was a great atmosphere and Ana did a fantastic job teaching repair and alteration skills to each individual.
Feedback included:
‘Great atmosphere and staff are friendly, glad I found this place!’ Gary
‘I have learnt from this workshop how to extend a crop top and add sleeves. Very lovely tutor, calm, understanding, knowledgeable and patient’ Janice
‘I learnt a lot from this workshop especially how to repair old clothes’ Maria
